Ohio

One June 4, 2022, Deckaid converged upon the 400 West Rich arts center in Columbus, Ohio in collaboration with Embassy skate shop. A collective of Deckaid board members, artists, collectors, and volunteers filled two adjoining galleries with eight different exhibitions.

The show was grounded in the Alien Workshop retrospective. It incorporated eight different collections, including Mike Hill’s incredible sculptures, Donny Humes’ archival tribute to Ohio skateboarding, Chad Bowers’ collection of early Mother boards, Lookback Library’s install of AWS tribute covers, and a living room install featuring a screening of AWS’ Memory Screen. In the Bridge Gallery, John Lucero, curated a multimedia wall with 90s centric Black Label graphics and ads. Tim Anderson brought his original art collection, and this time had all 4 evolutionary stages of Sean Cliver’s scratch off Terminator Deck. Ohio based artist Jay Croft displayed his Manimal’s original art, and archivist Destroyed Wood curated a wall of era-correct complete setups spanning ‘91 & ‘92.

The Ohio skate scene brought their friends, their families, their neighbors, and everyone else they knew to celebrate some of the vast history of skateboarding while also supporting the Columbus based safe house for teens known as Huckleberry House.
